Dark Summit Book Review
I recently read an advance copy of the recently released book Dark Summit by Nick Heil. The book, yet another in the vast Mount Everest adventure genre, investigates and details the deadly May, 2006 season on the world's highest mountain. Eleven people died that month on the mountain, including British climber David Sharp, who was passed by over 40 people as he lay dying at 28,000 feet. The lone miracle from that season was the overnight survival of Australian Lincoln Hall. Hall made the summit but was unable to descend. Abandoned by his mates and Sherpas, he was left as a dead man but survived the frigid night and arose Lazarus-like the next day. It's a compelling adventure story about death, survival, and moral choices at 28,000 feet.
