The HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation is hosting their 4th annual DC Metro Climb4Life from February 27 to March 28 at Earth Treks in Rockville, Maryland and Sportrock in Sterling, Virginia, both in the DC metro area, to raise important funds for ovarian cancer research at Johns Hopkins University. Ovarian cancer, occurring once in every 72 women, has a low survival rate and is difficult to detect early.
The event raises cash through participant fundraising and community and corporate sponsorship. Participants of all abilities climb for donations at the climbing gyms, learn basic climbing skills, and get instruction from top climbers. Special punch cards are available for climbing through March; prizes are given to individuals and teams for the most money raised; goodie bags from sponsors are giveaways; and participants get discounts on gym memberships and classes. If you haven’t climb before, you can try it out on the climbing walls at REI in Fairfax and Timonium.
If you live in the Washington DC area, this is a great event for a worthy cause. Registration is $30. Download application forms and get more information at HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation.
