Climbing Mount Kenya: Africa's Second Highest Mountain

By , About.com GuideJanuary 16, 2011

Follow me on:

Mount Kenya, at 17,057 feet, is the second highest mountain in Africa. Unlike Kilimanjaro, Africa's high point, Mount Kenya is not a walk-up peak but instead requires lots of roped rock climbing to the tops of its two major summits. I just published a new article--Fast Facts About Mount Kenya--that has lots of interesting bits of information about the mountain.

Mount Kenya has been on my climbing list for 35 years now but I still haven't made it over to Africa to climb that bad boy...yet. Researching and writing the article got me psyched up to fly to Africa and climb Mount Kenya. Now to start scraping together some cash for that expensive plane ticket...

A terrific choice for an adventure!
‘No Picnic’ on that mountain though… :)
