Last Wednesday, Brian Shelton, Bill Springer, and I got out to the rugged desert in western Arizona and made the first ascent of a 500-foot-high tower that we called Bighorn Tower, for a herd of bighorn sheep that live below it.
The tower, next to a 350-foot one we climbed a year ago, yielded a 7-pitch climb, with lots of loose rock, walls of choss volcanic rock, a jump across a 5-foot chimney, wild chimney and crack climbing, pocket moves,
and a 3-mile approach hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain to the base. A full-day adventure with full value!
