
After a dry start to the winter, snow has been falling fast and furious here in the Colorado Rockies. I was out trekking a week ago up a low peak in the Wet Mountains, trudging through snow and slogging up steep snow-covered slopes. I avoided, however, an open slope with fresh snow on an old snow slab--prime terrain for an avalanche.
