Leave your rock shoes on—you’ll get more climbing done. There’s nothing quite as annoying as going climbing with someone who insists on taking off their climbing shoes after every pitch. It’s usually the same person who doesn’t have their climbing shoes on after you lower down from the first sport pitch of the day. Instead of getting ready, they’ve been chilling on the ground or paging through the guidebook, and now it’s time to rock and roll and they’re not ready. How are ya gonna get your pitches in then?

When you get to the crag, whether you’re leading or belaying or chilling out, it’s your responsibility to get yourself ready. Put your harness and shoes on, snap your chalk bag around your waist, and tie into the rope. Now you’re ready to go. Sit back and relax. Let the good times roll.
