Hexentric Nut
An hexentric-shaped (six-sided) nut, manufactured by Black Diamond Equipment, of varying sizes that is placed or wedged in a crack for passive protection for a lead climber. The nut, also called a Hex, has holes which are threaded with cord or wire to allow a carabiner to be clipped into it. Hexes were, along with Stoppers, the standard type of nut used in the 1970s before the invention of Friends.
