By Stewart Green, About.com

Lost Arrows

Wedge-shaped pitons, manufactured by Black Diamond Equipment, of varying lengths and thicknesses for pounding in thin cracks for the protection of a lead climber. Lost Arrows are generally used in aid climbing. Like all pitons, their insertion and removal causes rock damage. Lost Arrows were named for the famous Lost Arrow Spire next to Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park.
