Nut Tool

Definition of Climbing Equipment Word

By Stewart Green, About.com

Nut Tool

A nut tool is a thin metal device, usually about eight inches long, with a hook at the end to allow the retrieval of stuck cams and to loosen tightly wedged nuts. A climber coming up second on a pitch cleans the gear placed by the leader, and uses this indispensable piece of equipment so that no gear, especially expensive cams are left behind.
