Greece, an ancient magical land of mountains, islands, and shore, can rightly be called the cradle of western civilization. Besides its ruined temples and pantheon of gods, Greece offers rock climbers an assortment of superb vertical adventures. One of the best areas is Meteora, an amazing place of immense conglomerate towers and faces. Some are crowned with old monasteries. Another incredible climbing area is the island of Kalymnos located in the Dodecanese Islands a scant 20 miles from Turkey. This island for climbers yields hundreds of bolted sport routes on limestone cliffs above the blue Mediteranean Sea. Another great area is Varasova, a limestone face that rears above the Gulf of Corinth in western Greece. Enjoy this photo gallery of Greek rock climbing and get inspired to catch a plane to Athens.
