Cristos Batalogianis, a local climber from Katastraki, cranks a thin face route up the pebbled vertical wall of Nixenherz crag. Above towers Rousanou Monastery, a still-active monastery dating from the mid-16th century. The monks still haul supplies up from the road below the monastery in a basket using a cable and winch. Besides all the fabulous climbing adventures, make time to visit the monasteries. Some have amazing pre-Byzantine frescos painted on chapel walls.
