Hueco Tanks is divided geographically into four areas: North Mountain, East Mountain, West Mountain, and the East Spur. North Mountain offers most of the park’s climbing routes with over 70 lines on the 250-foot-high, Front Side. This west-facing wall yields brilliant climbing up steep faces with huecos, sharp edges, and pockets for holds. The rest of North Mountain offers several bouldering areas, including the famed Mushroom Boulder (now closed to bouldering) below The Front Side and The Gymnasium, a shallow canyon with a hueco-covered wall.
East Mountain offers good climbing in Comanche Canyon and on Pigs in Space Buttress, as well as great bouldering at the Dragon’s Den. The East Spur, a rocky bluff at the park’s southeast corner, boasts the classic 45 Degree Wall boulder problem as well as the East Spur Maze and its numerous problems. West Mountain has the park’s hardest crack climb The Gunfighter as well as excellent bouldering. One of its coolest features is The Round Room, a circular, hueco-lined cavity with a long bouldering traverse tucked into the mountain’s cliffs.
