The severely overhanging wall of Waimea at Rumney on the southern edge of the White Mountains is a world-class crag with an assortment of difficult and technical routes that are not only the hardest in New England but also among the hardest in the United States. Most of these hard climbs were established by a gaggle of young climbers including David Graham, Luke Parady, and Joe Kinder. Waimea offers not only wild climbing but also wild geometry with its bulging rounded faces, blocky roofs, and smooth streaked faces. Rumney, located near the old village of Rumney, offers more than Waimea, with hundreds of bolted sport routes that ascend a compact assortment of cliffs on a wooded mountainside.
