Penitente Canyon, tucked onto the western edge of the broad San Luis Valley in southern Colorado, is a spectacular rock climbing area. Cliffs composed of pocketed rhyolite, a volcanic rock, line the sides of the twisting mile-long canyon. Over 100 bolted sport routes and a handful of cracks ascend the steep cliffs, offering rock climbers a wild and hidden venue for their sport.
