Dry-Tooling

Dry-tooling, a specialized aspect of ice climbing, is when a climber uses ice tools on a difficult mixed route, one that has both ice and rock, to climb upward. The climber ascends rock, below or above a section of ice, using ice tools on small holds on the rock rather than climbing with hands and feet. Tools used include ice hammers and crampons.
