Finding the Trailhead

From US 191 in downtown Moab, turn east on Center Street and drive to 400 E. Turn right and drive to Mill Creek Drive. Turn left on Mill Creek Drive and drive east to its junction with Sand Flats Road. Mill Creek Drive makes a sharp right turn here. Go straight on Sand Flats Road, following signs for the Slickrock Bike Trail. Drive 1.6 miles up the road to the BLM entrance station to Sand Flats Recreation Area. Pay a $5.00 entrance fee (good for 3 days). Continue on the paved road for another 2.3 miles and park in a dirt lot on the left (north) side of the road by a wash (GPS: 38° 35.028’ N / 109° 29.562’ W). A radio tower is on a hill to the west.

Negro Bill Canyon Trailhead

The trip ends at the Negro Bill Canyon trailhead on River Road (UT 128). The trailhead alongside the southern edge of the Colorado River is three miles west of US 191. If you are doing the canyoneering trip one-way, then you will need to leave a shuttle vehicle at this trailhead or make arrangements with a Moab shuttle service to pick you up.
